The Boone House is a nonprofit home dedicated to helping men ages 18 and older as they transition from a life of chemical dependency to a new life of freedom in Jesus Christ. It is a house of hope and a safe haven where men can learn to live a life free of addiction, and nurture their relationship with God in the process.
The goal of the Boone House is to offer a supportive living environment to men who are going through outpatient treatment at Living Free Recovery Services. The house is ideal for men who have come from other communities to find a recovery program with the faith-based perspective they desire. Others may live in the Twin Cities area, but need a safe place where they can break free of destructive relationships or old living patterns. At the Boone House, residents can cultivate their relationship with God in the fellowship of other Christians who are also establishing a new lifestyle of recovery. No one enrolled at LFRS is required to live in supportive living.
The Boone House is located in Brooklyn Park, a northwestern suburb of Minneapolis. The neighborhood is within a short distance of Living Free Recovery Services, Living Word Christian Center, and businesses for employment opportunities. The house is also on the transit bus line. Shopping and restaurant areas are nearby, as well as parks for recreation.
The Boone House, along with Living Free Recovery Services, is an outreach of Living Word Christian Center. Living Word Christian Center employs a supportive living manager.
The supportive living environment is provided to enhance the resident’s treatment program. The length of stay will be decided mutually by the Living Word Christian Center Supportive Living Manager and the resident.
Residents are required to work, assume household responsibilities, and take responsibility for their spiritual and recreational activities. It is each resident's responsibility to find and maintain a steady, full-time job and to use their own earnings to pay for rent, food, living expenses, and entertainment. While in supportive living, the men are taught to be responsible and accountable for their own shopping, meal preparation, household chores, and personal behavior. Residents learn (or relearn) the rewards of responsibility, the discipline of getting to work on time, working cooperatively with others, and the satisfaction of doing a job.
All of these skills help to rebuild damaged self-worth and instill a healthy self-image. The ultimate goal of these standards is to help residents become self respecting members of society and contributing members in the Body of Christ.
QUALIFYING FOR SUPPORTIVE LIVING Candidates are granted admission after review of assessment and an interview with LWCC Supportive Living Manager. Residents will need personal toiletries, towels, pillow, clothing, bible, small portable cassette player and purchase of their own food. SUPPORTIVE LIVING GUIDELINESHOUSE MANAGEMENT AND RULES
Supportive living creates a unique environment in which individuals of many different backgrounds and personalities are thrust together. People who have never assumed responsibility are suddenly required to live with others who demand high standards. Group living gives residents the opportunity to develop healthy conflict resolution skills. These skills are essential in learning alternative coping mechanisms, cultivating new attitudes, and maintaining behaviors consistent with a lifestyle of recovery. House rules are designed to set a standard for Christ-likeness, to help residents restore order in their daily lives, and to encourage responsible adult social behavior.
ABSTINENCE The home maintains a standard of being a safe haven for those in recovery. No resident may be on the premises intoxicated. Anyone using or possessing any mood-altering chemicals will be evicted immediately. FOCUS ON WORK ETHIC It is each resident's responsibility to find employment and to pay for rent and living expenses from their earnings. SPIRITUAL LIFE Living Word Christian Center services are available on Sunday morning, as well as Wednesday and Saturday evenings. There are also dozens of other church related activities available on a daily basis, such as bible studies, prayer meetings and evangelistic outings. HOUSEHOLD CHORES Everyone participates! Household chores may be assigned. MEALS Residents are expected to do their own shopping, meal preparation, and clean up. Cooking utensils are provided. SMOKING No smoking is allowed in the home, but there is a designated smoking area outside. Cigarette butts are to be disposed of properly in trash cans (not thrown on the ground). BEDROOMS Each resident shares a bedroom. The resident rooms are to be neat and orderly. Each resident is responsible for his own area. Beds are to be made in the morning and personal belongings put in order. Most residents move in with toiletries, casual clothing and work clothing. Closet space is limited. Bed linens and towels are supplied.
PERSONAL HABITS Residents are encouraged to shower and tend to their personal hygiene on a daily basis. Residents are not allowed to sleep during the daytime hours, (unless they work a night shift).
COMING AND GOING Coming and going may be restricted initially for some residents that need high structure and accountability. New residents may not be permitted to leave the house alone, but only if accompanied by another resident. If residents are seeking work or going to and from their job during a restriction, they must make arrangements with LWCC Supportive Living Manager. There is a midnight curfew.
VISITORS The residents may have adult visitors in the living room area from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Visitors are asked to leave by 10:00 p.m. on weeknights and midnight on weekends. Visiting hours for children are Sunday afternoons from 1:00-6:00 pm. No overnight guests or visiting in vehicles is allowed (even after curfew hours).
MAIL There are no restrictions on sending or receiving mail.
TELEPHONE A resident phone is available. Residents are asked to be respectful with the length of their calls. There is a block on dialing out long distance calls.
ENTERTAINMENT At The Boone House residents learn that drug free entertainment and relaxation are possible. They are responsible for deciding what to do for entertainment within the parameters of the Christian standard, individually or as a group. The purpose is threefold: to build a sense of cooperation and camaraderie among the residents; to learn alternatives for socializing without chemicals; and to encourage residents to develop supportive relationships with like minded believers. LFRS will post any sober social events that may be available to its clients. There is a television and VCR available, and residents are asked to monitor the types of programs they watch (no R rated videos or programs). The household abides by a Christian standard of no pornography and no secular music. Drugs and alcohol are not allowed on the premises, and a resident who returns home intoxicated is subject to immediate eviction.
TRANSPORTATION The house is on the transit bus line. Residents who have a valid driver's license and insurance coverage may have a personal vehicle (car or motorcycle). Many clients ride bicycles when weather permits. Living Free Recovery Services Treatment Center, Living Word Christian Center, and places of employment are within a short distance from the homes.
NO PETS ARE ALLOWED IN THE HOUSE OR ON THE PROPERTY
